King Edward VI Academy is a bi-lateral secondary 11 - 16 college with Post 16 provision in partnership with Boston College. There are 480 students on roll. The college is situated 12 miles from the seasonal resort of Skegness and over 80% of students travel to college by bus - some 50% of those from Skegness.

Students complete an 11+ entrance examination in September and those with a score of 220 are eligible for a place in the grammar stream - 30 students. The remaining three streams of intake cater for those students who do not attain the 11+ lower pass score of 220.

The college is proud to be the only Specialist Humanities College with a Rural Dimension in the country and as such aims to provide a stimulating learning environment which encourages student aspirations and creates opportunities for students to become more confident, responsible adults. Through work with parents/carers, partner colleges, local businesses and the wider community the college aim to provide the most effective support network to enable all students to achieve or surpass their potential. The college is a Lead School in the local Extended Schools cluster.
